Luigi and Bernie Married.

The Rev. William Connelly,
pronounces the couple married.
Here, standing in front of the beautiful little altar, is the first photo of Bernie & Luigi as husband &
wife. To the observer's left is the flag of the United States and on the right the state flag of West
Virginia.

The Beautiful Wedding Cake.
Bernie spent hours making this herself, and wanted to have a
combination of American and English styles.
The bottom tier is American lemon sponge.
The top two tiers were made from a recipe for traditional English
fruit cake.
Most of the reception guests preferred the fruit cake!

Another American tradition, where the groom feeds
wedding cake to the bride.
Wedding Day Favours.
Some of the Wedding Gifts.
Our Wedding Favours.
Not very common in England, but in the USA, guests to the
Reception are given "favours", little mementoes of the occasion..
Cards and Gifts.
Here is a selection of the wedding gifts we received - people were very
generous & thoughtful. Note the green foam glider, which was a gift from
the six-year-old grandson of our neighbour, to Luigi. He also gave Bernie
the sleepy leopard boy at the front - his intention, to keep Bernie
company in Luigi's absence.
The Church
It is claimed that the church where we were married, "Our Lady of the Pines" is the smallest in 48 states. It is fair
to say that there was just enough room for the eight guests who attended the ceremony, made up from members of
Bernie's family. The church is located just a few miles south of Deep Creek, Md., near the Marlyland/West Virginia
border on Route 219. Right next to the church is the smallest post office, which is open every Friday-the-thirteenth.
The afternoon we were married it was quite chilly at 38F, with snow still about.

This was one of the many very generous gifts from Bernie's work colleagues at WVU's
(West Virginia University) Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she is a Pharmacy Technician.
We are
very grateful for their kindness and generosity.
